Text Box: SECTION B: The Student Senate

*1. The Redwood Valley High School Student Senate shall consist of neighborhood representatives, The Executive Committee, the Student Senate Advisor, and three members appointed by The Executive Committee Themselves. 
2. Powers of the Student Senate Advisor
            *-No money shall be taken from the account of the Student Senate without a signature and verbal approval from the Student Senate Advisor. 
            +Shall preside over all Student Senate meetings. 
            +Shall provide guidance to the Executive committee and Senators. 
3. Powers of the Student Senate
            -Shall suggest any new rule changes for the betterment of the school and the students.
            -Shall work to improve all student-sponsored activities.
            -Shall investigate, report, and decide upon all matter referred to it by the students, faculty, or administration. 
            -Shall issue charter to all student clubs which make application to the Student Senate. This application shall be accompanied by the club’s constitution and bylaws which will be kept on file.
            -Shall have the power to allocate duties to various other student organizations (i.e. NHS, BPA, ect.)
            -Shall make decisions on senate business by a majority vote.
            -Shall be free to override a President’s veto with a 2/3 majority vote.
4. The Neighborhood Representatives
            -Shall represent all neighborhoods.
            -Shall attend ALL organized student meetings. 
            -Shall serve on one of the four Student Senate Committees.
            -Shall participate in Student activities.
            -Shall give reports on Student Senate meetings/activities.
5. The President, Vice President, and Secretary
            *-Shall be elected at large by an electoral college.
            -Shall preside over the Student Senate.
            -Shall have no vote, except in the event of a tie.
            -Shall have the power to veto.
            -Shall preside at all student assemblies.
            -Shall appoint each senate member to one of the four Student Senate Committees. 
            *-Shall appoint students as they see fit to serve as chair(s) on each committee.
*6. Appointed members (3 shall be appointed by the Executive Committee)
            -Shall have a voice on the Student Senate. 
            -Shall have a vote on the Student Senate.
            -Shall serve on the Social, Rules and Rights, or Community Committee. 
SECTION C: The Redwood Valley High School Student Senate will be divided into four committees: The Executive Committee, The Social Committee, The community Committee, and The Rules and Rights Committee.
Executive Committee
-Members
            -President
            -Vice President/Treasurer
            -Secretary
                        -Shall prepare agendas for each Senate meeting. 
                        -Shall keep accurate reports for all Senate meetings. 
                        -Shall prepare Senate reports for senate members to read to neighborhoods. 
            -Duties
                        -Shall approve all committee reports.
                        -Shall set agenda for each Senate meeting.
                        -Shall set the senate’s budget.
2. Social Committee
            -Members
                        *-As many representatives as the Executive committee sees fit.
                        *-Committee Chair(s) as The Executive Committee sees fit. 
                        +-committee shall appoint a Secretary for the committee
                        -Shall be responsible for preparing the social activities (dances, ect.) for the student body.
3. Rules and Rights Committee
            -Members
                        *-As many members as The Executive Committee sees fit.
                        *-Committee Chair(s) as The Executive Committee sees fit.
                        +-Committee shall appoint a Secretary for the committee
                        -Shall protect and advocate the rights of the student body.
                        -Shall preside over all high school elections.
                        -Shall organize most of the fundraisers for the Student Senate.
4. Community Committee
            -Members
                        *-As many members as The Executive Committee Sees fit.
                        *-Committee chair(s) as The Executive Committee see fit. 
                        +-Committee shall appoint a Secretary for all the committee.
            -Shall organize all RVHS intramural events as well as Senior Service Day.
                        -Shall coordinate Student Senate activities that deal with the community.
Article IV- Dismissal
SECTION A: Any member of the Student senate shall be dismissed from his/her position because of misbehavior or misconduct. 
*SECTION B: The attendance policy will be decided upon each new school year by The Executive Committee. See Student Senate Bylaws for detailed information. 
1. Members may appeal removal.
*2. An attendance board, consisting of the Executive Committee and the Student Senate Advisor, shall review any attendance concerns and ultimately decide to remove the member in question.
Article V- Meetings
SECTION A: Neighborhoods shall meet every Wednesday Star Time.
SECTION B: committees shall meet when necessary to discuss committee business.
*SECITON C: The Senate shall meet as often as The Executive Committee sees fit. 
Article VI- Elections
SECTION A: President, Vice President/Treasurer, and Secretary. 
*1. The Executive Committee shall be elected at large by a primary election.
            -The top two groups with the most electoral votes get to run for the office; in the event of a tie, the Student Senate will decide on the two groups. 
            +-In the event that only two groups sign up for primaries, the primary election will not take place.
            -Electoral System-There will be on vote per neighborhood, and one vote per 8th grade reading class.
*2. The primary election shall be held during the month of April.
3. The Rules and Rights Committee will set a date from which candidates must file for the election. 
*4. Campaigning shall take place one week prior to the primary election and ending the day of the final election.
*5. The Rules and Rights Committee will set a date for a student forum in which the candidates will be asked to express their views before the student body. 
6. Candidates shall run for office on a three-person ticket that includes candidates for President, Vice President/Treasurer, and Secretary. 
+7. To win one party must receive a majority of the electoral votes (half plus one)
+8. In the event of a tie, popular vote will be calculated. The party with the most votes will take office. 
*8. Votes will be counted by the Student Senate Advisor and the rules and rights committee Chair(s). In the event that the Committee Chair(s) is running for office, the current Executive Committee will choose someone whom they see fits.
*9. The Executive Committee will take power at the first official meeting of “The New Redwood valley High School Student Senate”,  and will serve one full year un till the following year’s first official meeting. 
SECTION B: the Senate
1. The representatives shall be elected from their neighborhoods by a simple majority vote. 
2. The Rules and Rights Committee shall set a date for neighborhood elections.
3. The candidates shall be selected through self nomination.
4. The representatives will take over at the first official meeting of “The New Redwood Valley High School Student Senate” and will serve on full year until the following year’s first official meeting.
Article VII- Direct Participation
SECTION A: Initiative exists so that the students may directly introduce statures of amendments to be considered by the student body. This requires a petition of 1% of the student body. 
SECTION B: A recall vote may occur if 25% of the student body or 25% of a neighborhood petitions for a recall vote.
*1. A particular individual or a three-person ticket may challenge The Executive Committee.
2. Recall Vote Petitions must be submitted to the Rules and Rights Committee. 
SECTION C: A Referendum exists so that the student body may vote directly on the statute change or Constitutional Amendments. A Referendum may occur through a petition signed by 2/3 of the student body. 
Article VIII-Amendments
*SECTION A: The student body does not need to vote to make changes for the Constitution. 
*SECTION B: All amendments to this Constitution must be approved by a 2/3 majority vote of The Redwood Valley High School Student Senate. It supersedes all previous Constitutions. 
+SECTION C: A new section will be added called the “Student Senate Bylaws.” Processes such as attendance and other items that change frequently, especially year to year, will be included. This shall serve as specific guidelines for Student Senate membership.
