Requirements for Induction

  • Grade Point Average
    -3.4 or higher

  • Extra Curricular Activities
    -Two are required for the year of applications. years prior to the year of application do not count. Eligible activities need to have regular meeting, a public performance, public service, or some form of public recognition. Intramurals do not count. Band and choir count as one activity.

  • Leadership Positions
    -There is no minimum requirement. To be accepted into NHS you must be a leader in some capacity. You may want to give this information to persons giving you a recommendation.

  • Community Activities
    -Required for the year of application and active participation is necessary. Also, the group must be involved in an activity or activities that provide a community service. Include an explanation of the service. The service must not be a one-day event; it must be steady involvement.

  • Work Experience, Recognition, and Awards
    -Not required, this is included for information that you may want to relate to persons giving you a recommendation.

  • Three Recommendations
    -One must be from a teacher you currently have or have had within the past year. One must be from a coach or advisor of one of your school activities. One must be from a community member or leader that you have worked with in you community activities or groups. Each recommendation must have a written comment stating the capacity on which the writer has known you, the length of time, and then certify that they believe you should be considered for membership in NHS. A signed form without the above will not be considered.
    Recommendations cannot be filled out by family members!



Maintaining Membership

  • 20 Hours of Service
    -School Service (10 Hours minimum)
    -Community/Individual  Service (5 Hours minimum)
    -Large Group Service (5 Hours minimum)
     

  • Maintain G.P.A.
     

  • Stay involved in at least 2 school activities
     

  • Abide by the MSHSL Rules
